Be Better

We want to make as many positive choices as we can, here are some of them:

Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS):

All of our products are GOTS certified.

GOTS is the world's leading organic fibre textile processing standard. Accounting for a high level environmental criteria and compliance with social criteria/fair labour (along the entire organic textiles supply chain).

In short, organic agriculture sustains the health of ecosystems, soils and people.

Some of the key assurances under GOTS includes no known toxic substances are used in the manufacturing process ensuring it safe for humans and all chemical inputs such as dyes and auxiliaries must adhere to environmental and toxicological criteria along with waste water management treatment plan for any wet processing involved.

Materials and quality:

It is imperative to us that all of our products are of a high quality to increase the lifespan and versatility of the piece. This means that at every step of design and manufacture, we endeavour to implement choices that create luxurious, high quality, long-lasting items.

ALL of our products are made from 100% Organic Certified Cotton.

What does it mean to be organic?

GOTS identifies organic production as “based on a system of farming that maintains and replenishes soil fertility without the use of toxic, persistent pesticides or synthetic fertilisers. In addition, it includes welfare standards for animal husbandry and prohibits genetically modified organisms.”

Where our products are designed and made:

All of our products are designed in Australia. The manufacturing of our garments takes place in India. We pride ourselves on thoughtful design and ethical manufacturing/processes.

We have chosen to work with a factory that implements standards and practices to create a safe and fair work environment for all. It is also GOTS certified.

The GOTS certification stipulates requirements for both working and social conditions throughout the entire supply chain that are equivalent to those of leading social sustainability standards.

We are lucky enough to have had members of our team build close relationships with the people behind our manufacturing processes and visit (pre-Covid) the factory and people involved.

We are especially grateful for this relationship as India fights against Covid-19. It has allowed us to keep in contact to understand what they are going through and what is needed.

Plastic:

Where possible we have cut plastic use completely. Below is a list of the last remaining plastic usage at Gogo Greene:

1. Our boxes come wrapped in a layer of plastic when shipped from the factory. However, we understand the protective benefit of this. We are looking into biodegradable or compostable alternatives to ensure safe travel of the garments.

2. Packaging tape was also used on the outside of our shipped boxes of product. The hope is to use biodegradable tape for our future shipments.

3. The backing paper on our stickers is not biodegradable or recyclable. We learnt that this is something that the entire industry is struggling with as whilst the stickers themselves meet most environmental requirements, the backing paper does not.

Packaging

Our packaging is designed and manufactured in Australia.

It is entirely recylable and biodegradable, sourced from certified and sustainable sources and made from recycled products.

We also ensured that our shipping satchels were reusable, rather than being a single use product.

Stripping back on waste:

We made the conscious decision to remove all unnecessary items, including:

  • Garment bags - traditionally, each item is individually wrapped in a garment bag, and shipped in boxes. We eliminated the use of any garment seperating type products.

  • Plastic fastener on swing tag string - usually swing tags on clothes have a piece of string fastened with a small plastic clasp. Instead we knot our string to remove the need for any plastic.

  • Plastic lamination - we made sure to avoid plastic laminations, usually found on swing tags and packaging. Our paper satchels for shipping are laminated to add protection, however this is a biodegradable lamination.

  • All un-necessary packaging - Having removed all the unnessacary items, we use only imperative packaging to limit the generation and output of waste.
